DENTURE FIXES IN ABBOTSFORD: RELINES, REBASES, REPAIRS

Experiencing discomfort or denture instability? At Kafka Denture Clinic, your denture comfort is important to us, which is why we offer denture relines, rebases and repairs for clients in Abbotsford. This includes repairs, relines, rebases and soft liner. Dentures can become loose or sore‑making due to natural changes in the mouth, such as bone and tissue shrinkage after extractions, tooth loss, weight loss, illness, and general aging, which often can be solved with a reline or rebase rather than a full replacement.

RELINES AND REBASES FOR ONGOING MAINTENANCE

If your dentures are still in good condition but could fit a little better, then a reline or rebase might be just what you need. Whether we like it or not, our body changes with time. When it comes to your gums, a reline is suggested every two years to prevent injury to the supportive tissue and to regain a proper fitting denture. Relining is when we add extra material to the inside of your denture to improve the fit; rebasing is when the denture’s teeth are satisfactory, but the pink acrylic base needs to be replaced.

Why your denture might not fit anymore:
As bone and soft tissues naturally resorb and shrink, the shape of your mouth changes. This commonly occurs after immediate dentures, additional tooth loss, significant weight changes, or systemic illness, which can result in looseness, sore spots, and reduced suction.

What a reline does:
We take an impression inside your existing denture and add new acrylic to the tissue side to closely match your current gums; this improves fit without changing the look of the teeth.

What a rebase does:
We replace all the pink acrylic base while keeping your existing denture teeth in the same position. This option is useful when the base is old, weakened, or following immediate dentures.

Recommended maintenance intervals:
Plan for a reline about every 2 years, a rebase about every 3 years, and a new complete denture roughly every 5 years to maintain comfort, function, and oral tissue health.

SOFT LINER FOR YOUR COMFORT

Soft liners consist of soft polymer material that is added to the hard denture base and acts like a cushion for your gums. In some cases, a soft liner can be used to provide a more comfortable fit for your dentures. Typically, it is best used on a lower denture that rests on a flat, shallow gum. Soft liners work well but require a little more careful attention when it comes to cleaning. Care must be taken not to use a harder type of soaking agent, as this may shorten the lifespan of the soft liner. If persistent tenderness or advanced ridge resorption makes a hard acrylic surface uncomfortable, a soft reline material can provide cushioning while your tissues adapt, your denturist will help you choose between hard and soft reline options.

Are you looking to improve your oral comfort and improve the fit of your dentures? Contact us today for an appointment. We’ll assess whether a reline, rebase, or repair is the most conservative fix and map out a proactive schedule (2‑year relines, 3‑year rebases, 5‑year replacement) to keep your dentures fitting securely.
